Fall Chapter ConferenceWhen: Saturday, November 21st. 10 AM -12:30 PM
Where: Meeting Room B. Beaverton City Library. The Fall Chapter Conference, hosted by the YES Board of Directors, allowed YES chapter leaders and members to collaborate and connect with one another. The group brainstormed potential events and awareness campaigns to host within their schools. In the second hour, prospective chapter leaders and members joined the group to learn more about how to get involved. If you are interested in starting a YES chapter, click here! |
NEST + YES Student-Led ForumWhen: Thursday, November 19th. 6-8 PM.
Where: Ecotrust. Jean Vollum Natural Capital Center. In partnership with the NEST Foundation, the YES Board organized a student-led forum to discuss sexual exploitation in Oregon. The panel consisted of students, Multnomah County Commissioner Diane McKeel, Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney JR Ujifusa, Representative Kathleen Taylor, Portland Police Officer Mike Gallagher, CSEC Intervention Coordinator from the OR Department of Justice Amanda Swanson, and BOLI Legislative Director Paloma Sparks. More than 100 people attended and questions continued beyond the allotted two-hours. Thank you to all who participated. |

Lincoln High School Chapter Ice
When: October - November Buying Period
In Store Party: November 18th. 5-8 PM Where: What's the Scoop Ice Cream Shop 3540 N Williams Ave, Portland, OR 97227 Youth Ending Slavery's Lincoln Chapter collaborated with the local ice cream shop, What's the Scoop, for a delicious fundraiser! Supporters ordered pints online and attended the in-store party. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go to local organizations that work directly with victims of human trafficking. |

2015 Walk to End Slavery
When: 2-4 PM. Saturday. September 19th, 2015.
Where: Director Park. Downtown Portland.
Youth Ending Slavery's 3rd annual Walk to End Slavery was a huge success! More than 100 people attended our Walk, but hundreds more were impacted by our rally and peaceful walk through downtown Portland. Wynne Wakkila, founder of FAST, served as the keynote speaker after the YES Board shared their perspective on youth activism. YES also raised important funds - all of which will go right back into hosting more community events - by selling t-shirts, stickers, and baked goods. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and joined us on this hopeful, solution-driven afternoon. We look forward to seeing you next year!

Community BrunchWhere: Tabor Space Dining Room.
When: Saturday. June 13th. 10 AM - 12 PM Cost: Free! Donations recommended. The YES Community Brunch allowed the YES Board of Directors, Chapter leaders, families, and fellow anti-trafficking organizations an opportunity to reflect on the progress YES has made in the past year. We also shared the different types of events - including forums, benefit concerts, and visual art fundraising shows - we hope to hold in the future. At this brunch, our newest board members - Molly Kelleher, Natalie Bojarsky, Emma Christensen, and Katy Foley - also introduced themselves to our supporters and partners. |

Let Freedom Run 5KWhere: Forest Grove High. Forest Grove, OR
When: Sunday, May 31st, 2015. Our Forest Grove chapter planned a 5K walk/run in May to raise awareness for ending modern day slavery. The race brought in almost $4,000 and all the proceeds benefited Janus Youth Programs. More than 100 people showed up to support this great cause! The event was one filled with activism, athleticism, and altruism. See sponsors below. |

NEST Student-Led Forum
When: May 28th, 2015
Where: Madison High School. Portland, OR. In conjunction with the American SPCC and the NEST Foundation, Youth Ending Slavery helped plan this student-led forum. The forum focused on the epidemic of sex trafficking in Portland, how current elected officials plan to stop this atrocity, and tasks students can complete to better protect themselves and others. YES Board member Avital Balwit served as the moderator for this forum. |
March Chapter ConferenceWhen: Sunday, March 15th.
Where: Tabor Space. Portland. The various YES Chapters met for a March Chapter Conference to exchange ideas and plan for the future. Topics included Forest Grove's Let Freedom Run 5K and the new chapters at Grant, Lincoln and Sherwood. The YES Board is excited to see what events, projects, and ideas they will spearhead. #whatiwouldmiss CampaignWhen: Feburary 2015
Where: St. Mary's Academy The YES Board of Directors recently participated in the social media campaign hosted by Students Opposing Slavery. The goal of this campaign was to urge people to reflect on what they would miss if they were a victim of human trafficking. Following the picture, video, or post, the campaign asked for a statistic or fact. Watch the video at left to hear the Board's response. |

Compassion First: In Plain
When: January 15, 2015
Where: Compassion First Headquarters Throughout National Human Trafficking Awareness Month, Compassion First hosted multiple screenings of the documentary "In Plain Sight" which highlights several aftercare programs for sex trafficking survivors across the country. YES Board Members Clare Collins and Clare McLeod attended a screening and held a resource table at the event. |

Candlelight VigilWhen: January 11, 2015
Where: Jamison Square. Portland, OR Youth Ending Slavery hosted a Candlelight Vigil in conjunction with the organization Abolition Now to honor victims of the sex trade and to reflect on the horrors experienced through modern day slavery. We heard the story of Maritza Hudson, a human trafficking survivor, along with personal stories of YES Board Members who described what inspired them to begin their work. The evening was a great reflection on how to unite against the horrific injustice of modern day slavery. |
